Getting pregnant may not be easy for all, but it is definitely an amazing and adventurous journey for everyone!
Starting a family is the biggest and the most important step in a couple’s life. When I and my Husband first thought of starting a family, I was quite excited and full of all kinds of emotions at the same time. My mind was wandering around with random thoughts and questions about the entire How’s” and “what if’s” but what kept me going throughout was the ultimate result of being called a “Mother”.
Ever since we got married, I was trying to avoid an early pregnancy by suitable modes available as me and my husband were not ready to put any “extra responsibility” on our shoulders. Then came the time when we actually thought of giving us a chance as we thought we were “Ready”. Both of us tried. Days passed into months. We kept trying month after month, till we finally crossed the dreaded one year mark of trying to have a baby without success. We were sad but decided to seek medical help. After going through certain fertility tests, we both realized that at the age of 31, it was next to impossible for me to become a mother without any expert help of a Fertility Specialist.
I did a lot of research into the subject and then after many phone calls and suggestions from friends, decided to go with a very well reputed IVF clinic in the city of Mumbai. I was into a world of total disbelief and dilemma prior to my first visit to the clinic and there were millions of questions doing rounds in mind at the same time. I did book an appointment prior to my visit and was asked to bring on all the previous medical reports along with me.
The first visit started with a One on one session with the Fertility Specialist there, which even included some questions about my sexual and personal life. I was advised to go through some additional tests to ascertain the level of the issue persisting. I left for home after going through those tests. Few days later I got a call from the clinic and the doctor suggested me to start with an IVF treatment with immediate effect.
My IVF journey started with the focus on creating between 4 to 6 chromosomally normal embryos to increase our chances of becoming parents. Although this gets possible for a lot of people in just one IVF cycle, mine took a bit longer due to low AMH value, low follicle count and poor response to hormonal injections. Finally, we were been able to achieve the desired results after numerous doses of IVF medicines and 4 rounds of egg retrieval attempts. My embryologist performed a test known as Pre-implantation genetic screening (PGS) on all the collected embryos. She was very happy that I had 5 chromosomally normal or eupolid embryos frozen with the clinic. The following month, she defrosted one of those embryos ad a Frozen Embryo Transfer or FET was performed on me.
As I write this, I am 20 weeks pregnant with a baby and by the time I will give birth to it, I will be 32 years old. The Journey wasn’t that easy at it sounds like and I have gone through a lot of pain and discomfort in the process. Still I would conclude that as all the efforts have paid off well, I would sum it up as an “All’s well that Ends well” kind of story.
